I don’t understand why government spending always increases no matter which representatives control the budget process. But, then, there are many things I don’t understand. Maybe it has to do with leadership.
According to an article by Brian Balfour in Civitas (www.nccivitas) CAPITOL CONNECTION, Senate leader Phil Berger said, “The cycle of irresponsible taxing, borrowing and spending must stop.” Sounds good; but why does it continue? Spending always increases and actual cuts are never made. Mr. Berger’s comment above gives us the clue.
Mr. Balfour notes in the June issue that the House budget spends “$340 million above total spending last year” and “a nearly $600 million hike over last year’s budget.” My simple math shows about $1 billion that the House members decided to take out of our ailing economy—and the purses of our overtaxed citizens. The Senate also increased spending, but not as much.
Again, this illustrates that no matter how much wailing about “cuts” we hear; government spending is never actually reduced. Proof: Compare any spending, at any government level, with the previous year. I will bet that new spending exceeds the previous budget year—no matter what political statements we hear.
The strangest part of this is that voters continue to elect people who almost always take more of their property and impose restrictions on them; which raises the question: Are most American voters unable to recognize candidates that will serve our best collective interests, or do they derive pleasure from being abused, humiliated and mistreated? I refuse to believe that most of them are ignorant or really don’t care.
