Many of you have probably seen the new promotional video pseudo science being offered up by Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens of Swift Boat fame. At any rate, you can read more about his plan here. But to summarize, T. Boone is putting forth the free-market windmill solution. Power from wind, frees up natural gas which then can be used to power cars and we’re all happy in our new energy independent future.

But wait, there’s a lot more to the story. Here’s some good information on why he might be doing it. And over at the Institute for Energy Research, there’s a virtual expose of the logistical problems with the Pickens plan.

Some of the simple reasons to question millions of your tax dollars being used to subsidize wind:
Wind power is intermittent – Non-predicatable and consistent
Wind power is non-dispatchable – Hard to integrate into an electric grid
Wind power is not easily or efficiently transmitted – Wind occurs far, far away from where the energy is needed.
Wind energy needs backup power that comes mostly from natural-gas fired power plants – Well duh!
