Your local politics update

The past few days have featured candidate forums in a number of municipalities in the Cape Fear region. Here’s a roundup:

• The Lumina News has a nice summary of the recent forum in Wrightsville Beach, where candidates for mayor and alderman discussed such issue as water quality, taxes, solid waste, public safety, and whether a proposed skateboard park in the town would be as bad as the one in Carolina Beach — bad in the sense of causing trouble, not in the sense of rough pavement. Man, those darn-fool kids with their hula-hoops and their loud rock music!

• The Brunswick Beacon has coverage and video of candidate forums in Calabash, Sunset Beach, and Carolina Shores.

• Meanwhile, in Burgaw there will be a candidate forum tonight at the Historic Depot. Details here.

You can find more information about municipal elections in the region at the StarNews Elections page. You may also enjoy a recent WHQR-FM segment with Catherine Welch and StarNews columnist Si Cantwell discussing the Wilmington city election.
