While incumbent Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo easily won reelection last night, other incumbents around the region didn’t fare as well. Two incumbent council members in Wilmington were defeated. So were several mayors in smaller towns such as Wrightsville Beach, Boiling Springs Lakes, Southport, and Oak Island.

In Jacksonville, the Daily News reports that two incumbents on the city council list their reelection bids. Two incumbents also went down to defeat in Topsail Beach

BTW, I heard talk last week that Saffo will now begin preparations to run for NC Senate, assuming that incumbent Julia Boseman decides not to seek reelection to the competitive New Hanover seat in 2010.
