Rating the Southeast NC senators

Posted November 15th, 2009 at 9:36 PM by John Hood

Two sets of state legislator rankings have just come out: the Conservative Effectiveness Ratings from Civitas and the Business Ratings from NC Free Enterprise Foundation. I’ll summarize the findings for state senators in Southeastern NC here and follow up later with the state representatives.

Starting with the Civitas ratings on both fiscal and social conservative issues, here are the scores:

• Harry Brown (R-Onslow, Jones): 54% score, 7th out of 50 senators
• Julia Boseman (D-New Hanover): 9.8% score, 34th
• Tony Rand (D-Cumberland, Bladen): 8% score, 36th
• R.C. Soles (D-Brunswick, Pender, Columbus): 8% score, 37th
• Charlie Albertson (D-Duplin, Lenoir, Sampson): 6.5% score, 39th

Now for the NC Free scores on select business issues:

• Harry Brown: 81%
• Tony Rand: 69%
• R.C. Soles: 64%
• Charlie Albertson: 51%
• Julia Boseman: 48%

Follow the links to learn more about the scoring and legislative votes chosen for the two rating systems. Obviously, Civitas did not grade on a curve.
