There is a difference
Posted January 2nd, 2010 at 11:43 AM by Bob SmithFor those who say that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats take note. A big difference exists here in the Tar Heel State. If you care about fiscal responsibility in government most Republicans defend that principle in their voting records; Democrats usually don’t.
Data from the Thomas Voting Reports Inc. recorded in the Wilmington Star-News (Dec. 20, 2009) under the headline CAPITAL CORRESPONDENCE gives evidence.
Irresponsible federal spending “to provide $74 billion to create or preserve publicly funded jobs“ in HR 2847 narrowly passed (217 for to 212 against) the House. This bill also appropriated $79 billion for “social safety-net outlays.” This porker will cost us $153 billion and add to our national debt. Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-NC voted yes. Rep. Walter Jones, R-NC voted no.
To be fair to McIntyre, he voted no with Jones on HR 4314 to raise the national debt limit to more than $12 TRILLION. This was another close one: 218 for bigger debt and 214 against it.
Senators representing North Carolina also sharply contrast in their roles as responsible legislators. In a “Catchall 2010 Budget” Sen. Kay Hagan, D-NC voted with 56 other Democrats to spend $447 billion including “4,800 earmarks” costing cash-strapped taxpayers $3.7 billion. This huge budget-buster “clears $650 billion” for entitlement spending. Sen. Burr, R-NC voted no.
